In the year 2003, the Plastics Injection Industry Research Association (a.i.T.I.I.P.) became Fundación aiTIIP, being registered in the Foundations Record in the Gobierno de Aragón. It is a new step forward of the R&D group that started to walk in the middle 80s, and always beside the Mechanical Engineering Department in the
Nowadays, Fundación aiTIIP is a Technological Centre, which means that it is registered as Innovation and Technology Centre in the CICYT, with registration number 78 according to the REAL DECRETO 2609/1996 of 20 December.
Since last May 2006, Fundación aiTIIP is one of the main members associated to FEDIT.
Thanks to this adhesión it is extended also the territorial representation of FEDIT with the entrance of a centre from Aragón.
Fundación aiTIIP is a deprived organization without profit spirit, whose aim is to increase the competitivity of the mould manufacturing and plastic transformation companies, focusing on the SMEs. For that reason, in its Patronage they are represented some of the most important companies in that industry, most of them from Aragón. All the corporative information can be viewed in our website: http://www.aitiip.com
The activities carried out by Fundación aiTIIP integrate all the plastics value chain:
a. Training, at a high level, sectored, customized, at a theoretical and practical level, with videoconference supporting and e-learning platform available.
b. Research, part design at an aesthetic level, 3D, engineering (mechanical simulations, injection process simulations). These activities are particularly complex and they are developed in collaboration with the Mechanical Engineering Department in the University of Zaragoza, TIIP (unit associated to the CSIC Polymers Science and Technology Institute). Since year 2002 the TIIP-aiTIIP group is recognised by the Gobierno de Aragón as a consolidated Group of Applied Research T39.
c. Product and Industrial engineering, PFMEAs, product and process feasibility analysis, modifications following, tools, mould trials management, plants production starting. Contributing always with the added value given by the extensive experience of the technicians, in a multinational frame, with own methodologies.
d. Prototype parts manufacturing with SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) in cooperation with different Technological Centres and companies.
e. Research and Development in the field of Rapid Tooling, with technologies that shorten the delivery terms.
f. Research and Development in the field of Plastics Injection Moulding, including almost the whole technologies demanded by the industry as sequential injection, bimaterial injection, coinjection, gas assisted injection moulding, water assisted injection moulding, textile overmoulding and injection-compression.
Fundación aiTIIP is a meeting point, through the projects developed specifically in its website http://www.aitiip.com , where it is available an e-learning section and a customers section for the projects following.
Fundación aiTIIP is an organization that cooperates with other Technological Centres in the development of common platforms for supporting the companies by means of the use of ICTs adapted to the industry necessities, as the current development of the CVP (Plastics Virtual Centre), coordinated by Fundación ASCAMM.
Last years, Fundación aiTIIP has became the biggest European centre in the manufacturing of big prototype moulds for bumpers, door-panels, front-ends. The availability of aiTIIP facilities has allowed optimizing the companies investments. The key is to articulate correctly the system Science-Technology-Society, creating a frame in which improve the interchange between University-Organization-Company. This is the only way to be able to manufacture big prototype moulds in a competitive term (10-14 weeks) and with a minimum investment, minor than the usual in this cases, that allows to validate not only the product and material, but also the future manufacturing process. Thus, the Spanish industry improves its technology and it is more competitive abroad. The staff is composed by 35 people, and the facilities comprise
